The Committee of the Catalan Association of NSW is composed of a group of volunteers that dedicate part of their time to organise the Casal<\/i>\u2019s events, and to push forward iniciatives that promote the Catalan culture, language and traditions in Australia. Any member of the Casal<\/i> is welcome to be part of the Committee, which is currently formed by:<\/p>\n

Marjorie Laburu \u00b7 President<\/b><\/p>\n

I was born in Toronto-Canada, during a big snow storm in November 1977 and, with only 3 years of age<\/span> my family and I moved to Olot. I imagine I might have nomad blood because of my parents so that\u2019s why we ended up moving to Sydney, of course, with a little help from my husband who received a job offer. I have two daughters, who I wanted to speak <\/span>perfect English, one is from 2009 and the other from 2011. I am in charge of the sale of books and merchandising and I am also very attached to the Esplai<\/i> for kids.<\/p>\n

My name is Raquel Munoz Regne and I’m from Barcelona. I came here in 1997 with who’s<\/span> now my husband. We met in London working together as gardeners and that’s what we do here in Sydney. We have two<\/span> daughters,<\/span> and I always wanted them to be part of this Casal<\/i> family and for them to know as many Catalan traditions as possible. Australia has treated me well, it’s a nice country to live in with lots of opportunities, especially for my profession.<\/p>\n

I’m Annie Zamora, I\u2019ve lived in Gr\u00e0cia (Barcelona) all my life. But one day we had the chance to come to work in Australia, and we didn\u2019t think twice! So we came here with a 3 year old son and our 10 month old twins (yes, hands full). From the first moment I fell in love with this country, especially with the intensity of the blue of its sky, and that in any corner you can plant a mat and enjoy a picnic surrounded by a stunning landscape. Thanks to the Casal Catal\u00e0<\/em> in NSW, I was able to feel a little less away from home, and in it you will find me as a reference for l’Esplai Infantil<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Esteve Mayolas Rocha \u00b7 Grants<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Born in Sant Pau d\u2019Ordal, Esteve spent his youth between Vilafranca del Pened\u00e8s and Barcelona, \u200b\u200buntil at the age of 33 he moved to Sydney. It’s been over a decade, and Esteve admits he’s fallen in love with this charming city. As president of the Casal Catal\u00e0 in NSW, Esteve says he is proud to be in charge of this new stage of the Casal, and to be able to contribute to the dissemination of our culture and language in Australia. S\u00f3c nascuda a Terrassa, on vaig viure fins que al 2015 vaig traslladar-me a Austr\u00e0lia per motius professionals. Aquell mateix any es va restablir el Casal Catal\u00e0 de NSW i no vaig dubtar a fer-me’n s\u00f2cia. Participar en el Casal m’ha perm\u00e8s entrar en contacte amb altres catalans i catalanes que com jo, volem seguir mantenint el lligam amb la nostra terra i la nostra cultura. Des del 2018 que en s\u00f3c la Tresorera. Porto els comptes del Casal, gestiono les subvencions que rebem del Departament d’Exteriors i les col\u00b7laboracions amb l’Ag\u00e8ncia Catalana de Turisme.

I was born in the middle of the Catalan countryside but I have lived abroad for the most part of my adult life. Los Angeles, Taiwan and now Sydney, I have always felt the need to be connected to my country and people. I love Australia’s powerful nature and wildlife, the young and positive spirit of this country and the mix of cultures living here. I enjoy being part of the Catalan association and teaching my two daughters to enjoy our culture, language and traditions. I’m in charge of managing the website and sending the newsletters.<\/p>\n

After residing in Ireland, England -my terrible English at the time required a big boost- and Switzerland, I ended up in Australia searching -and finding- sushine and good vibes, amongst others. Souls are complex entities, they manage to make somehow compatible the explorer\u2019s side of one-self and the longing for one\u2019s home place. My way of making sure that this dichotomy won\u2019t split me in half is by being an active member of the Catalan Association of NSW and this enriching Catalan-Australian community. By lending a hand in the import and expansion of the Catalan culture, language and traditions in this wonderful land.<\/p>\n

I was born and grew up in Alcover (Tarrago\u00adna) until I moved to Barcelona to study Industrial Engineeri\u00adng. There I met Mart\u00ada, with who I fell in lo\u00adve, even though I often had her away because she was tr\u00adaveling a lot because of her wo\u00adrk.
\nTogether we had a boy and two girls, Ser\u00adgi, Ainhoa \u200b\u200band Elsa, who speak a perfect catasplanglish.
\nIn 2012 we came up with the brilliant id\u00adea of \u200b\u200bcoming to Au\u00adstralia to improve our pathetic English and to know another culture very differ\u00adent from ours. It wa\u00adsn’t until two years later that we stepp\u00aded on Sydney, which we loved from the very first moment.
\nI miss the family, our places and traditions, but thanks goodness I have the Ca\u00adsal Catal\u00e0 and Sydney Human Towers that fill part of this gap.<\/p>\n
