Who are we
The Catalan Association of NSW is a non-profit cultural association, which groups together Catalan people and enthusiasts of our culture who reside in New South Wales, and mainly in its capital city, Sydney.
The Catalan Association of NSW was created in 1982 with the aim of providing a gathering place, so the Catalans who immigrated to Sydney and surrounding areas could meet in order to keep their culture alive and continue celebrating the Catalan traditions.
After a few years of no activity, the Casal is reborn in 2015, with a main goal: to broaden this space of Catalan representation in NSW.
In addition to maintaining the initial spirit of uniting those of Catalan origin living in Australia, the Casal wishes to promote and expand the history and culture of Catalonia -not only among its members but also among the broader and diverse Australian communities. With this in mind, the Casal organises throughout the year several activities and meet-ups open to everyone.
Location
At this point in time, the Catalan Association of NSW has no meeting centre, which means the activities are usually held in open-air spaces or centres -depending on each occasion-, such as Gure Txoko in Darlinghurst. If you would like to be part of the Association, have ideas for activities, or would like to make suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us via hola@casalcatalansw.com
The Catalan Association of NSW is regulated following the legal foundations established in its statute, as well as the current legislation and regulations for the running of the Catalan Communities Abroad, which are part of the Secretaria d’Afers Exteriors of the Generalitat de Catalunya. All the activities will be legally performed according to the current legal framework in New South Wales, Australia.
